How to prepare

Setting out on a road trip with young kids necessitates careful planning to guarantee a seamless and pleasurable journey for the whole family. One effective strategy is to either leave early in the morning or drive through the night. If you opt for an early start, having breakfast prepared for when the little ones wake up is a game-changer. In my road trip routine, I prepare a stack of pancakes the night before and freeze them. Come morning, I heat them up and stash them in my trusty Stanley thermos, ensuring a warm and hearty breakfast that stays deliciously hot throughout the day. To maximize the thermos's heat retention, prepping it before you put the pancakes in is crucial– boiling water, pouring the hot water into the thermos and letting it sit for 10 minutes, dumping water and then quickly wiping the water out, replacing it with the pancakes creates a cozy breakfast-on-the-go solution. Ensure your safety by sitting in the back with your toddler while they eat, and be prepared with travel wipes for a quick cleanup once they finish their meal.

Another key aspect of road trip preparation is getting as much packed in the car the night before as possible. This minimizes the morning rush, allowing for a quick and efficient departure. The night before, load up essentials, from snacks to entertainment, ensuring a stress-free start to your adventure. Additionally, it's paramount for parents to prioritize a good night's sleep, as a well-rested driver significantly contributes to the safety of the journey.

And what's a road trip without the essential fuel – coffee? Preparing coffee in advance is a game-changer, and we rely on our Nespresso maker for a quick and high-quality brew. My husband, often taking on the role of the early driver, opts for a double espresso to stay alert, while I savor my coffee throughout the day in my reliable Stanley coffee cup, ensuring it stays piping hot. Starting a road trip with a well-prepared breakfast and a hot cup of coffee sets the tone for a day filled with adventure and cherished moments on the open road.

Here's how I prepare for a road trip with my mom essentials: I always have my Stanley water bottle filled to stay hydrated on the go. A wet dry bag is perfect for keeping snacks organized and easily accessible. I also rely on my Brixley bag, a small crossbody ideal for carrying essential travel items. These essentials ensure I'm well-prepared and comfortable throughout our journey.

Gearing up for a road trip with young kids may seem like preparing for a wild adventure in uncharted territory. But fear not, brave parents! With a little creativity, a lot of snacks, and perhaps a playlist of toddler-approved tunes (prepare for "Baby Shark" on repeat!), you'll be ready to hit the road and embark on an unforgettable journey with your little ones. So buckle up, keep those travel-sized wipes handy for inevitable messes, and remember: the best memories often come from the most unexpected moments. Here's to a road trip filled with laughter, love, and maybe just a hint of chaos along the way

Road Trip Essentials

Doodle Board Tablet: A doodle board tablet is a road trip essential for kids and toddlers because it provides endless entertainment and creativity without any mess.

Magnetic Toys: Magnetic toys are perfect for road trips as they adhere securely to surfaces, preventing constant dropping and minimizing the risk of items becoming lost in the car. They provide entertainment without the hassle of picking up scattered toys. My son loves the show so we opted for the Bluey Magnetic Playset. I also purchased some construction vehicle magnets that work with the set as well.

Suction Cup Spinner Toys: Suction cup spinner toys not only capture your toddler's attention with their visual appeal but also adhere securely to windows, offering a mesmerizing distraction. We keep ours on our front door and transfer them to the car windows for long journeys in the car. They contribute to a calm and enjoyable journey.

Perfect for the car, these pads keep your toddler engaged without the worry of stains or spills. We opted for the vehicles activity pad because our son George loves all things construction!

Educational Toys: Introducing educational toys during a road trip sparks your toddler's curiosity and facilitates learning in a playful manner. Whether counting, identifying colors, or learning shapes, these toys make the journey both entertaining and enriching. Wikki Stix: Wikki Stix offer mess-free creativity, allowing your toddler to mold and shape without the need for crayons or markers. They provide a quiet and engaging activity for the car. If your child does want to use crayons to pass the time, I recommend triangular crayons. They will not roll off their workspace and onto the ground and they promote the proper writing grip.

Pop Fidget Toys: Pop Fidget toys serve as tactile and sensory tools, providing a satisfying popping sensation. My son absolutely loves his Pop Fidget Ball. We got a pack of 4 so he can always find one laying around It keeps him entertained and offer a calming effect, making them ideal for long car rides.

Its wooden construction ensures durability, making it a reliable long-term companion for various developmental stages. Compact and portable, the busy board provides screen-free entertainment, encouraging cognitive stimulation and imaginative play while maintaining a quiet and travel-friendly profile. With its ability to captivate a child's attention and promote essential skills, the Montessori wooden busy board emerges as an ideal travel companion for fostering learning and exploration on the go.

Books: Books may seem like a simple addition to a toddler's travel essentials, but their impact on keeping little ones engaged should not be underestimated. It's easy to overlook the value of books during travel, but incorporating them into the journey can provide a quiet and immersive activity for toddlers. To keep the experience fresh and exciting, utilizing the library for new books your toddler hasn't seen before is key. This ensures a longer attention span and sustained interest. Opting for cardboard books is crucial, as they are sturdy and less prone to tearing, making them a durable and practical choice for on-the-go reading. We make sure to always pack our LeapFrog Learning Friends 100 Words Book because it keeps my son busy for hours

Seat Back Organizer: Having a backseat car organizer is crucial when traveling with toddlers for several reasons. It serves as a practical solution to keep all the essentials neatly organized and within easy reach during the journey. The organizer can securely hold your child's tablet, headphones, water bottle, snacks, toys, and more, making it a versatile storage solution. This ensures that you have everything you need at your fingertips, reducing the need for frequent stops and creating a more seamless travel experience

Portable Travel Potty: A portable travel potty is indispensable, especially during bathroom emergencies. It provides a convenient and hygienic solution for pit stops on the road.

By minimizing distractions from the sun's glare, these shades contribute to a more harmonious and enjoyable journey for both parents and toddlers.
